The Chalet Chabert

Houlgate has preserved many of its seaside villas from the Second Empire but few have remained in the same family to this day. The Chalet Chabert, which became Le Wellingtonia, named after the tree planted in its garden, is one of the family homes that have seen all generations succeed each other since 1870.

In this book, presented as a photo album embellished with testimonies, letters and anecdotes classified by date, the villa plays its most beautiful scores as soon as the fine weather returns, with "Bonne-Maman" as conductor, Élisabeth Laverne, born Chabert in 1877, who died in 1965, a year after the disappearance of the tree that had given its name to the house. It is to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the place that her granddaughter, Christine Laverne, wanted to write this book which ends with her own childhood memories discovering the treasures of Houlgate beach. This work, intended above all for his family, will touch all lovers of the architectural heritage of the Côte Fleurie.
