Various breads from France are illustrated by Georges Bronner who, like Francis Ponge ( Le Pain , Le parti pris des choses ), finds in the surface of the bread a marvelous panoramic representation of the earth's crust. Arthur Rimbaud's (1854-1891) poem, Les Effarés , evokes all the power of attraction of bread, a strong and timeless symbol of universal food.
